Reading with Pride, some of our favourite LGBTQ+ books here in Waterstones Bon Accord.

Me, My Dad and the End of the Rainbow by Benjamin Dean, illustrated by Sandhya Prabhat

A delightful book for readers aged 9+, Me My Dad and the End of the Rainbow introduces us to the wonderfully kind Archie, and his determination to fix whatever is causing his family to split apart. His dad is hiding a secret, and with the help of his friends and the end of a rainbow Archie is on a journey to find out what is going on. A book full of heart and love, its not to be missed!

And Tango Makes Three by Justin Richardson, Peter Parnell, and illustrated by Henry Cole.

A perfect picture book for readers old and young alike, about the joys of parenthood. When the zookeeper finds penguins Roy and Silo trying to hatch a stone, he decides it might be time for the couple to become real parents! This book joyfully introduces gay partnerships, and the concept of two dads to wee ones!

Wranglestone by Darren Charlton

Perfectly combining a gay love story with a terrifying zombie apocalypse, this is the perfect queer YA novel. In post-apocalyptic America, a community live on a lake, safe from the zombies, until Winter, when the lake freezes over. When Peter puts the camp in danger he is forced to leave the community and help Cooper, a fellow survivor defend the lake from the hordes of the undead. As the boys defend their lake home from the zombies, sparks begin to fly. A brilliant novel of love and brilliant characters, perfectly balanced with the dangers of the undead, it’s one of my favourite books of all time!

Heartstopper Volume One by Alice Oseman

‘Boy meets boy. Boys become friends. Boys fall in love’

This is a brilliant LGBTQ+ graphic novel, following the highs and lows of life, love and school days. Charlie and Nick sit next to each other one day, and so begins a wonderful tale of friendship and first romance. This graphic novel is like a warm hug in paper form. It’s impossible not to fall in love with Nick and Charlie and their friends. Soon to become a Netflix tv show!

Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe by Fannie Flagg

This is the ultimate comfort read, meet Idgie and Ruth and the Whistle Stop Cafe. Set during the American Depression, this book is filled with love, laughter and a touch of mystery. A lovely heartwarming book, this is a wonderful book to discover all year round. The romance between Idgie and Ruth is so warm and cosy to read, one of my favourites for sure!
