In Conversation: Peter Marshall on Storm’s Edge

Start Date 20/06/2024 5:30 pm
End Date 20/06/2024 6:45 pm

We are delighted to welcome Peter Marshall, the Wolfson Prize-winning historian, to Waterstones Aberdeen to discuss his new book, Storm’s Edge: Life, Death and Magic in the Islands of Orkney.

About the event

Beginning with the murder of his ancestor by a witch in 1624, Marshall looks afresh at three overlooked centuries of the islands’ history and considers this tumultuous period of change for both Scotland and Britain from the perspective of the islands and its communities. Storm’s Edge is more than just serious scholarship, it is a surprising page-turner with a wonderful cast of characters from adulterous clergy to foul-mouthed fishwives.

Orkney-born Peter Marshall is Professor of History at the University of Warwick, a Fellow of the British Academy and a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society. He won the prestigious Wolfson History Prize in 2018 for his book on the reformation, Heretics and Believers.

Peter will be in conversation with Professor Julian Goodare of the University of Edinburgh, followed by an audience Q&A and book signing.
