End Date 04/07/2024 6:30 pm

Join us for the inaugural meeting of our translated fiction book club to discuss this year’s winner of the International Booker Prize, Kairos by Jenny Erpenbeck.

About the event

We plan to read a novel or set of short stories translated from a different language each month. We will be meeting in the bookshop from 5.30pm to 6.30pm on the first Thursday of each month. There are a limited number of spaces so please speak to a bookseller or email aberdeen@waterstones.com to register your interest.

About Kairos

Translated from German by Michael Hoffman, Kairos is the story of a self-absorbed, destructive relationship between a young woman and a much older man set amid the dying days of communist East Germany. It can be read as an allegory, of lost love and of lost nationhood, but it is as much about the dynamics of power, the corruption of idealism and the subjectivity of memory.

Copies of Kairos are available to buy now in the bookshop or can be ordered on our website.
