SIGHTSEEING IN ABERDEEN CITY CENTRE

Sightseeing in Aberdeen city centre

Sightseeing

Take a walk along to Broad Street where you can take in the stunning views of Marischal College. Originally built in 1593 to serve as a university building, it is now the headquarters of Aberdeen City Council. The recent development of Broad Street has seen a beautiful fountain installed at the front of the building, with over 60 illuminated jets of water constantly performing a different sequence. Whilst you are there, make sure to look across the road at another new development on Broad Street – Marischal Square. This building truly mixes the old with the new, with its huge glass windows reflecting Marischal College and Provost Skene’s house. Marischal Square is home to a number of restaurants and cafes including the world’s first Mackie’s ice cream parlour. Another point of interest at Marischal Square is a five meters tall leopard sculpture designed by the award-winning Kelpies artist Andy Scott. The sculpture, named ‘Poised’, sits upon a ten meters tall pole and looks down upon passers-by, truly an impressive sight.

Once you have taken in the sights of Aberdeen, take a moment to stop and refuel. We would recommend Café W at Waterstones. If you’re in the area in the afternoon, pop in for a slice of cake and coffee.
